How BINGO Digi Planned a Full-Funnel Annual Media Platform for China Guangfa Bank

Project Introduction

Connecting Brand Purpose With Measurable Business Objectives

China Guangfa Bank is one of China’s national joint-stock commercial banks. Its established proposition, “Discover the Wonderful, Create the Future,” provided a strong starting point, but the 2022 media brief required a connected annual expression.

BINGO Digi’s supplied case materials describe an annual communication platform that translated green finance, rural revitalisation, livelihood support and consumer finance into three colour-coded chapters. The concept connected brand communication, platform partnerships, offline experiences, the Guangfa app and performance-media planning.

The available source is a media-service pitch rather than a post-campaign report. The figures below describe planned scope and budget allocation, not achieved campaign results.

RMB 8 Million Planned Budget

The proposed annual media and activation budget.

74% Allocated to Digital

RMB 5.9 million of the proposed budget was assigned to internet, social, content and performance media.

Three Themed Waves

Fresh Green, Hope Orange and Guangfa Red organised the year around distinct business and public-interest priorities.

The Challenge

Making a Major Bank Feel Relevant Without Losing Institutional Credibility

The planning context combined economic uncertainty, changing public sentiment and fragmented media behaviour. The bank still needed to communicate with authority, but product advertising alone could not explain how its services related to daily concerns.

The brief set two objectives: build reputation while supporting business development. Green finance, livelihood support, rural revitalisation and retail banking could not be treated as unrelated messages.

The media plan also needed to move beyond reach. Digital investment had to create clearer routes from attention to app interaction, account opening, product enquiry, card binding, credit approval or subsequent usage.

The original claim that Guangfa’s credit-card business had “collapsed” is unsupported. The challenge was stronger integration and more accountable media planning, not a documented business failure.

Making a Major Bank Feel Relevant Without Losing Institutional Credibility
The Insight

Participation Could Give a Low-Involvement Product a Larger Social Role

01

Public Sentiment Required an Appropriate Emotional Register

Communication needed to acknowledge uncertainty without reinforcing it. A forward-looking narrative could give the bank a warmer role while remaining consistent with its proposition.

02

Policy Themes Needed Consumer-Level Expression

Green development, rural revitalisation and livelihood support were important institutional priorities, but they risked feeling abstract. Interactive actions, rewards and familiar daily scenarios could make these themes easier to understand.

03

Media Effectiveness Needed Deeper Conversion Signals

Clicks and views were only early indicators. The proposal therefore linked creative activity with the Guangfa app, product benefits and a staged measurement framework that could progress towards applications, approvals, card binding and usage.

The Strategy

Organise the Year Around “Play Differently”

BINGO Digi used one core theme, two connected routes and four seasonal chapters.

Fresh Green
01

Fresh Green

Green represented low-carbon living and green finance. The chapter was designed to turn sustainability from an institutional statement into actions users could complete in digital and physical environments.

Hope Orange
02

Hope Orange

Orange represented rural revitalisation, employment and small-business support. The chapter connected assistance for orange-producing regions with financial and employment-related services.

Guangfa Red
03

Guangfa Red

Red represented daily consumption, retail finance and the bank’s established visual identity. The chapter linked lifestyle discovery with Guangfa Day benefits, app activity and an annual personalised colour statement.

Together, the three chapters gave the year continuity without forcing every business priority into one campaign burst.

Campaign Execution

Giving Every Season a Different Participation Role

Fresh Green: Low-Carbon Participation
01

Fresh Green: Low-Carbon Participation

The proposed first wave partnered with Super Plants and Alipay Sports. An AR mechanic let app users scan green elements, collect energy and grow a virtual tree. Five-city walking routes and energy stations linked check-ins with rewards and selected financial benefits.

Hope Orange: Rural and Livelihood Support
02

Hope Orange: Rural and Livelihood Support

The second wave proposed collaboration with 51job. Users could nurture oranges linked to three producing regions, while a “Wish-Orange Convenience Store” pop-up used blind boxes to introduce employment opportunities and small-business loan benefits. A Douyin challenge extended social participation.

Guangfa Red: Consumption and Year-End Ritual
03

Guangfa Red: Consumption and Year-End Ritual

The final wave proposed a Xiaohongshu “Big Red Book” installation with lifestyle answers and Guangfa Day offers. An app module extended access beyond the site. A NetEase-hosted annual colour statement summarised user participation, while a People’s Daily collaboration collected public wishes.
These were pitch concepts. The available material does not confirm which modules were commissioned or executed.

Combining Partnership Planning With Performance-Media Architecture
Execution Details

Combining Partnership Planning With Performance-Media Architecture

The proposed RMB 8 million budget allocated RMB 5.9 million to digital channels and RMB 2.1 million to outdoor media and physical installations. Platform and content lines included Alipay, 51job, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, NetEase, People’s Daily, social and PR media, and performance advertising across major Chinese ecosystems.

The proposal included GroupM’s GPS framework across planning, audience insight, measurement and activation. First-party, platform and media data were intended to support audience modelling and optimisation.

API connections and OCPX bidding were designed to move optimisation from clicks towards deeper actions such as downloads, leads, registrations, credit applications, approvals, card binding and consumption. These were proposed operating methods rather than evidence that a proprietary BINGO Digi system was implemented.

Publication should confirm BINGO Digi’s responsibility for strategy, media, partnerships, production and execution, and identify third-party data tools.

One Annual Narrative

The colour system connected three different financial priorities without weakening the bank’s core proposition.

Platform-Relevant Participation

Platform-Relevant Participation

AR, walking routes, adoption mechanics, pop-ups, Douyin content and Xiaohongshu installations gave each platform a defined role.

Utility Supported the Creative Idea

Utility Supported the Creative Idea

Rewards, app activity, employment information, loan benefits and consumption offers created routes from storytelling to practical value.

Deeper Measurement Was Built Into the Plan

Deeper Measurement Was Built Into the Plan

The media framework distinguished initial attention from progressively more valuable business actions.

The Plan Connected Brand Meaning, Public Priorities and Conversion Design

The proposal organised a complex banking brief into a consumer-readable annual system. Green, orange and red made institutional priorities distinct, while the “sense of ritual” idea provided continuity.

Each chapter also linked communication with a potential action. Sustainability became energy collection and walking. Rural and livelihood support became orange adoption, employment information and small-business benefits. Consumer finance became lifestyle discovery, Guangfa Day offers and an annual personalised statement.

The performance-media layer showed how attention could be measured against deeper customer-journey stages, making the plan more accountable than awareness-only partnerships.

The available evidence supports the conclusion that a structured annual media proposal was developed. It does not prove that every activation was delivered or that the strategy increased card activation, loan enquiries, transaction frequency, trust or retail revenue.

Before this is published as a BINGO Digi success story, project records should confirm BINGO Digi’s role and separate its work from GroupM’s GPS framework. Once confirmed, the case can credibly demonstrate capability in annual communication planning, financial-services marketing, cross-brand partnership concepts, O2O activation, app engagement and full-funnel media design.
